As i write this i am on my way back from voting.
Its the end of day and voting is officially closed. The voting booth i
had to go to was in south mumbai and it was nice to see so many old
people from my building turn up.. Although it seemed strangely not so
crowded i was still hopeful. Hopeful that the recent terror attacks
and the subsequent uproar would wake our sleeping nation. So much for
LEad INdia. So much for all the endless debates and campaigns urging
people to go out and vote.
Preliminary reports say the voting in Maharashtra has not crossed even
25 percent while other states notch equally miserable rates. MP i
think had over 50 percent.
This is a dismal state of affairs. Im lookin out for the ink stain on
everyones fingers and can spot it on barely a few fingers in this
compartment of over 75 women right now.
Im so upset at the unchanging mindset the political deadlock we
ordinary citizens are caught in and helpless cause we just blew our
chance.
If youve not voted, you should be ashamed.
The argument of no ones good enough doesnt cut it. This is what we got
and this is what we got to make the most of. Like it or not.
This was our chance to turn up in phenomenal numbers and tell them
were serious. Hard as nails.
So much for that huh.

This time the number of people who turned up for voting is better than the last time... Things are improving... This time more worthy independents are contesting giving all the more reason to vote....

Things will change.... I believe so...

please don't lose hope.....

Sadly many people aren't even in voter's list. Most probably their names are taken by politicians' men for fake voter ids.

26/11 happens, we light candles and that's all.

I voted! :) first time!! and so did all...ALL my friends! but a lot of names of my neighbors were missing in the list... I sense something fishy there!

I agree.. there was a lot of noise made after 26/11... but so little action, leaves me with no hope for this country and the people!

I voted. Discovered by chance that we were registered. Felt wonderful. We had registered in 06 but ddidn't know that it had happened. But was quite stunned to hear about the lower than last time turnout at Mumbai

people it seems are all bluster and too lazy to actually change.

seriously...shame on those who didnt vote when they had the chance to do so!
God knows what it'll take to wake up people of this nation who've given up hopes of a better future. If only they could have a lil faith and used their rights well.

@ The Knife - Thats great news! Im glad you did. Although I will ask, cos i know lots of people who couldnt vote cos they live in rented apartments etc, what docs did u submit to be registered? as in i cant recollect if your still in a rented premise or not..and if you are, what was the process for registraton? I was so angry with these guys for being so lazy and not
registering.

Hi Roy - Yep I guess. I really thought it would be different. anyway. U better have voted Mister. :D

Hi PJ - well said.

@ Karmickids - I read your post, and your reasons as well. I think it wouldve been different had you had the slip and clear indication on where you wouldve had to go. Im sure you would've knwing you.

No. I didn't vote. Frankly, I didn't even know where I would have to go to vote. 11 months in Chembur and 1 in Bandra. I still went to the polling booth. Obviously no name. My sister went to the polling booth in DLF, Gurgaon where I'd stayed for the last 5 years. Inspite of a PAN number, current account, IT returns...my name was missing. I'm not ashamed. I would have tried but it was too long a process. And somewhere Serendipity, when I see the candidate list, I don't care. I don't. And I'm not ashamed to say that either.

How do we know said...

yes, true. CAM.

I submitted the forms in 2006 during the voter's drive. We have our own house and were living there. Frankly don't remember what i had submitted. Perhaps my passport. We have shifted to a rented palce but the voter's slip came to our house. You get the drift?
