(Small) Town girl!
Since the date clearly shows and all, i cant fool y'all. I took this picture two days ago, from a rick at Nashik. I love the picture cos it looks authentically 1970's though im not sure Kodak was in India by then :)
Reminded me of something ... in one of my account planning classes Mr. Anand Halve (who I think is a maverick, was also my thesis guide) showed the Bud ad with the wassssupppp/wazaaaaa. Then on that became the batch's anthem greeting. The one to hang out the tongue the longesttt would be the champ! :)
my FAV peoples...love black & white pictures....there is this one hanging on the living room wall at home...a child, sort of kneeling, looking up with hands folded...and light on it's face...it's super...!! This picture first impression, "is there a bandh?"!!!
Brilliant photo :) Your talent for photography is really showing now ! Just shows that you don't need really expensive equipment to take a great picture. I think its more about the ability to recognize a moment, realize its worth and capture it. And the simplest moments are the nicest.
@ Dusty - Yep, im a big fan of Sepia and B/W pictures! And no, it wasnt a Bandh but it was a Sunday. and i guess you know how weekends are in Small Towns!
@ Jack - to be fair there was no "recognizing" moment happenign here. i was simply aiming blidly out of a rick flying at 40 kmph. mustve taken about 12 worthless pictures before liking this one!
Know what I seriously miss those "marathi banners" here. Last time i was in mumbai ; I am amused to see them ...may be kinda strange !! prolly I was trying to relive those old moments !!

btw i saw few books from Indu sudresan in your list. how are those ones? Currently I am hooked to "Tales from Firozsha Baag". Got to catch up some stuff by chitra devkuni banerjee as well.
The twentieth wife and Feast of roses! they are really captivating books - i just read them about 2 weeks ago. MUST READ. for the week that i was reading them, I WAS Mehrunissa. totally utterly spellbound.
Completely agree ... those two books are like top of my fav. list right now. Very few books are so visually evocative and emotioanlly stirring at the same time.
And I feel there's a beauty in B&W pictures, a magic which for me color somehow rarely captures.

well great work .. that apart .. this pic is too developed for a real indian small town .. u need to venture deeper i guess..
