I got this in my mail today. Jai Maharashtra it says.
  1. We should teach our kids that if he is second in class, don't study harder.. just beat up the student coming first and throw him out of the school
  2. Parliament should have only Delhiites as it is located in Delhi
  3. Prime-minister, president and all other leaders should only be from Delhi
  4. No Hindi movie should be made in Bombay. Only Marathi.
  5. At every state border, buses, trains, flights should be stopped and staff changed to local men
  6. All Maharashtrians working abroad or in other states should be sent back as they are SNATCHING employment from Locals
  7. Lord Shiv, Ganesha and Parvati should not be worshiped in our state as they belong to north (Himalayas)
  8. Visits to Taj Mahal should be restricted to people from UP only
  9. Relief for farmers in Maharashtra should not come from centre because that is the money collected as Tax from whole of India, so why should it be given to someone in Maharashtra?
  10. Let's support Kashmiri Militants because they are right in killing and injuring innocent people for the benefit of their state and community..
  11. Let's throw all MNCs out of Maharashtra, why should they earn from us? We will open our own Maharashtra Microsoft, MH Pepsi and MH Marutis of the world
  12. Let's stop using cellphones, emails, TV, foreign Movies and dramas. James Bond should speak Marathi
  13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states
  14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside
  15. We should STOP using local trains... Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos and Railway Minister is a Bihari
  16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharashtra, then they will become true Marathi’s

And they Say Jai Maharashtra. I cannot start to say how ashamed I am of Mr. Raj Thakrey, of our politicaians all of whom are scared stiff of this man, our Coutry who has no rights to talk of development when we educated inviduals hold innocent public to ransom like this.

I am truly ashamed. To my Non Maharashrian friends who are bearing the brunt of this, I apologise.

its like we are going back to the stone age..in an era where the world is exploring new horizons..we are happy to fight for petty things..what we need is someone who can standup to him..another young politician who can hold his own against such people..

Really. I cant understand how we are planning on moving foward when we are so divided and limited in our thoughts.

Gandhi will be turning in his grave.

Gandhi started suffering long back, its been 60 years now! We worked with non-violence to get independance, and we got violent to be able to express our freedom! Our caste, religion, region and society never allowed us to cross boundaries and open our minds. Most of us are that way! Most of us buy into what our friends say, people say and society states!

Its not wrong to fight for someones rights! Its wrong to politicize it. Its wrong to beat up people just to scare them and prove your point. Your being a coward then! The politicians need to get into the ring, wear gloves and start hitting each other. Settle your own scores and leave the people alone! If you cant wish for good of the people, atleast not do bad to them, kill them, mislead the youth and set the country back by a thousand years. We need the last reincarnation of Vishnu to be back. Let Kalki arrive and set us free!

About the mail you got, I find it another form of extremism. I have my own thoughts and perceptions about the situation right now but violence is surely not my choice of action!

I know how this feels. 'Outsider', a word I never thought of associating with myself till Mr. Thackeray decided to. No matter if I'm someone who knows more about where to shop and eat in Mumbai OR the road, rail routes all over (not just Town or Western Line) - more than a whole lot of Mumbaikars I know. Or the fact that I hold my breath with anticipation for the first glimpse of marine drive every time I go to town. Same for the reclamation lights at Mahim Bay. Or that I have now spent as many years here as I have anywhere in my life so far. Or that I love a 100 things about the city and hate a good 50 too. I will crib if this city I live in has bad infrastructure but will always find myself defending it if someone else says something bad about it. No matter. But than I think, if I'm letting him make me feel bad I'm letting him succeed in what he's trying to do!

And Ser, baby, you don't have to apologize because you don't stand for this. And what's heartening is that its just not you. Nanda didi, my housekeeper, she says that he has no right and no business troubling poor people who are only trying to make a living. She also says that she has no false impressions, he's not doing it for her or her family, its for his seat only. If she knows this, I hope that even some others would and won't kill any more young bread earners on board local trains...

On a lighter note, Bond is going to speak not just Marathi but also Hindi, Telugu, Tamil etc. this time! Quantum Of Solace will be released in all key vernaculars as well. What say, we watch and laugh our hearts out :)
